“With little fanfare, Google made its personalized search system the default this week. Whereas searchers had the option of turning on this feature before, now users’ search histories are automatically factored into the engine’s mysterious algorithm. This means that results users actually click on after a particular search will be ranked higher in subsequent searches with similar terms. Google says this switch was made to improve customer service; when searching for “sox,” users interpreted to be sports fans will find more information about baseball teams than footwear. But when one moves beyond haberdashery and into weightier issues—say, climate change—the potential for endemic confirmation bias becomes troubling.” Search Me § SEEDMAGAZINE.COM

“vast quantities of cheap/open/easy technologies (commercial and open source) are undergoing rapid rates of improvement. Combined with tinkering networks that can repurpose them to a plethora of unintended needs (like warfare), this development path becomes an inexorable force. The delta (a deficit from the perspective of the status quo, an advantage for revisionists) between the formal and the informal will only increase as early stage networks that focus specifically on weapons/warfare quickly become larger, richer, etc. (this will happen as they are combined with the economic systems of more complex tribal/community “Darknets”).” Global Guerrillas: SUPER EMPOWERMENT: Hack a Predator Drone

“scope is an augmented reality game designed by frantz lasorne that uses computer enhanced lasses to combine virtual gaming with physical objects. the game works by using small game pieces that are mounted with small digital codes that let the computer know what they are and where they are located. each player in the game puts on a headset that is linked to a computer. the players interact with the computer telling it what to do. as weapons are fired or players are moved, the action is superimposed of the physical objects bring them to life. the game can use almost any toy, mixing medieval knights with toy soldiers and perhaps even a barbie or lego man.”
